Mario Morcone was born in Caserta on October 27th 1952. He is married, has 2 children and has been a civil servant since 1976. In 1988 he became chief executive for the Prime Minister, in 1990 he was appointed Director General of the PCM, in 1991 chief executive of the Ministry of Education and in 1992 chief executive of the Ministry of the Interior. He was appointed prefect, first of Rieti 1993 and later of Arezzo. In 1999 he was appointed Deputy of the UN civil administration mission in Kosovo and later UN administrator for the region.
His successive titles are as follows: Director General of Civil Administration, Head of Department of civil defense, civil protection and fire fighters, Head of department of civil liberties and immigration, special commissioner for the city of Rome, head of the agency of seized and confiscated property and organized crime, head of cabinet for the minister of international cooperation and integration .
He has been Head of Department of civil liberties and immigration since June 30th 2014.
He was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Republic.
