Galleria Passaggi

The gallery Passaggi is located in the heart of the historic center of Pisa in an area that is progressively turning into a “cultural neighborhood”. On the same street you can find two bookstores, Jazz&libri and Ubik, and a few steps away, along the riverbanks, the prestigious Palazzo Blu, an art and culture center that, besides hosting a permanent collection of Pisan art from the XIV century to present, promotes a variety of artistic events, including exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
The space the gallery occupies is a former warehouse located on the ground floor of an historical building that still bears traces of the past, such as religious inscriptions carved in the façade and dating back to different moments of history. A XVII century marble inscription attests that the building was owned by the congregation of the Madonna di Sotto gli Organi, named after a XIII century painting kept in the Cathedral of Pisa and worshipped by the Pisan people. During the restoration of the gallery a fragment of a painting depicting a little red cross was found: it was preserved as a testimony to the stratifications that have built up over time over time, marking the passage between past and present.
